Credit Analyst

£45,000 - £60,000 + bens + bonus


Overall Job Purpose:

Credit Risk sits with the Risk department and consists of a Head of Credit Risk, One Senior Analyst, one Credit Analyst and a Credit Assistant. Counterparties are active in the commodities space (particularly base metals) and include small, medium and major players across all geographical jurisdictions.

The key component of the role is supporting the Credit department in the assessment and review of the creditworthiness of counterparties, making recommendations on limits, and managing exposures through daily monitoring to ensure the ongoing health of the portfolio. From time to time there may also be a requirement to help out with other Risk related tasks.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Quantitative and qualitative assessment of (new and existing) counterparties, predominately corporates, but also including banks and brokers.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial statements (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) and calculate financial ratios.
  • Making sound recommendations on uncommitted credit facilities to be granted without the need for guidance.
  • The timely preparation of credit papers for new and existing counterparties and ensuring the credit department\'s objective of reviewing all existing customers within a strict 12 months\' annual review cycle is maintained.
  • Proactive monitoring of the portfolio and management of higher risk exposures on a daily basis.
  • Supporting front office sales staff by communicating credit opinions in a clear and coherent manner and helping to find solutions to fit commercial requirements while also mitigating risk.
  • Speaking to counterparties where necessary to seek clarification on their financial statements and participating in client visitations. These meetings maybe held at our offices but may also necessitate the need to travel.
  • The oral presentation of credit files to Senior Management at Credit Committee.
  • Assisting the credit department in preparation for Credit Committee: agenda, distribution of credit proposals, limit maintenance and liaison with other departments where required.
  • Chasing of financials in line with annual review deadlines, either directly from the customer or via the Front Office.
  • Preparation of management information and ad-hoc reports on a periodic basis for Head of Credit and Senior Management.


  • Credit: Ability to produce accurate credit reports with coherent recommendations, sometimes within tight deadlines.
  • Industry: Knowledge of commodity markets (in particular base metals) and experience with commodity derivatives. Good knowledge of financial markets is also preferable.
  • Communication: Confidence in presenting credit reports at to senior management at Credit Committee
  • Interaction with the Front Office.

Language: Fluent in English (written and spoken), other language skills would beneficial.

I.T: Excel skills are essential

Working Hours: 8am - 5:30pm (There will be the opportunity to travel to Europe)
