Change tomorrow: deliver our Capital programme today

The challenge

We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment.

The nation's investment in flood and coastal defences has helped to protect properties and reduce the impacts of flooding on lives and livelihoods. Between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2027, the government is investing a further £5.2 billion in reducing the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. Alongside the construction of hard flood defences, our programme will seek to incorporate natural flood management and climate change allowances into the design of our schemes as well as create habitats for wildlife.

Our Partnership and Strategic Overview (PSO) teams support the whole lifecycle of our flood and coastal risk management assets, working with communities, professional partners and other organisations to protect us all from flood risk. Whether you're analysing data to inform plans or developing strategic approaches to protect people and property, your skills are vital for our future.

The role

This role is central to the effective management of flood risk. Reporting to the Partnerships & Strategic Overview Team Leader, you'll deliver some of our core data management and analysis work. This includes managing data to improve flood risk maps and supporting project delivery leads as they develop our Capital programme.

This is an outward-facing role where you'll be engaging with internal and external customers who are looking for data, advice and guidance on flood risk matters, as well as partner authorities such as Lead Local Flood Authorities. You'll also take part in incident response, supporting our incident management teams, as and when required.

The person

As an entry-level grade, we welcome anyone with; interests in; formal qualifications in; or experience in engineering, science, geography or a customer-related field. Whatever your circumstances, you'll show an understanding of river process, hydrology and the impact of flooding.

In addition, you'll bring energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, an ability to build and maintain good customer relationships, and the skills to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.

A valid driving licence is desirable but not essential.

The benefits

Our benefits package includes generous annual leave, an excellent pension and flexible working arrangements. We'll also look after your wellbeing through our employee assistance programme, shopping and leisure discounts, and interest-free loans for bikes and season ticket loans.

There are many opportunities to progress your career with us via professional training routes such as apprenticeships and degree programmes.

The Environment Agency is committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.
