Map out tomorrow: build your skills in programme management as part of an expert team

The challenge

We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment.

The nation's investment in flood and coastal defences has helped to protect properties and reduce the impacts of flooding on lives and livelihoods. Between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2027, the government is investing a further £5.2 billion in reducing the risks of flooding and coastal erosion. Alongside the construction of hard flood defences, our programme will seek to incorporate natural flood management and climate change allowances into the design of our schemes as well as create habitats for wildlife.

Our Projects and Programme Management team keeps us on track as we turn these ideas into reality. By ensuring we stay on schedule and on budget, and introducing innovative approaches, systems and technologies to increase our effectiveness, you'll be helping to protect people, property and the environment from the challenges of global climate change. Your skills have never mattered more.

The role

Develop your project and programme management experience as part of a future-focused team, advising on and implementing flood risk management works. Working closely with project delivery teams, including local authorities, you will be focused on finding ways to improve efficiency and productivity. Your fresh perspective will be highly valued. We'll also look to you to gather and analyse significant data, and report back on the performance of different programmes and programme elements. There are opportunities to get involved with incident management when flooding occurs.

The person

Strong organisational abilities, clear customer focus and well-developed interpersonal skills are our top priorities. You'll also need to demonstrate an ability to use Microsoft Office, in particular Excel. While knowledge of project and programme management would be helpful, it is not essential -providing you are keen to learn. You'll be capable of communicating effectively both in person and in writing, and the ability to use GIS for creating infographics would be welcome.

The benefits

Our benefits package includes generous annual leave, an excellent pension and flexible working arrangements. We'll also look after your wellbeing through our employee assistance programme, shopping and leisure discounts, and interest-free loans for bikes and season ticket loans.

There are many opportunities to progress your career with us via professional training routes such as apprenticeships and degree programmes.

The Environment Agency is committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.
