Freelance Risk & Compliance Manager

Harper James is a full service, national, commercial law firm with a unique business model and an innovative way of working.

We are looking for a Freelance Risk & Compliance Manager with experience in legal compliance to join our team. This is a home-based opportunity but given the nature of the role you must be willing to travel to our Sheffield when required, which would likely be once a month.

We are an energetic bunch at Harper James and you\'ll need to be bright and lively to keep up. A professional attitude and excellent communication skills are a must along with a desire to succeed in an environment that is relaxed but professional.

Key Responsibilities

* Working with fee earners and support staff on all aspects of client and matter inception;

* Responsible for risk management, best practice and compliance issues; designing and implementing a risk management plan of action for the firm and developing the wider Risk and Compliance function;

* Advising on all aspects of legal service quality, knowledge management, competency, professional compliance & legal service risk management;

* Keep up to date with professional, legal and best practice developments;

* Analysing data in order to produce reports;

* Due diligence and conflict of interest checks;

* Monitoring AML compliance and other regulatory requirements;

* File reviews and monitoring;

* Analysing client feedback.

Desired Skills and Experience

* Experienced Risk & Compliance Officer/Manager with solid experience in a law firm;

* Excellent understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory regimes including the SRA Handbook, Anti-Money Laundering and Data Protection legislation;

* Ability to explain complex compliance, best practice and risk issues clearly;

* Ability to design and implement effective firm policies and processes to manage risks and improve service provision;

* Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail;

* Strong communication skills both verbal and written;

* Excellent IT skills and a detail-orientated approach;

* Ability to manage your own workload and be able to work with minimal supervision.
