A large healthcare organisation is looking to appoint a Head of Patient Safety & Risk Management on a band 8a.

This is an interim post to commence immediately until Mid - August 2021, working in the West Midlands with a mix of on site and remote working.

Lead on all aspects of Patient Safety including serious incident investigations, Duty of Candour, Patient Safety Alerts.

Main Responsibilities:

Lead a programme which systematically recognises, reports, analyses, evaluates and minimises risk throughout the organisation;
To achieve high standards of risk management, including assisting with the ongoing review and development of the organisation's strategic direction for Risk;
Create awareness and a positive approach regarding the importance of managing patient safety and risk;
Actively promote and ensure good risk management practices, an open, just and fair culture and the achievement of national risk management and patient safety standards and performance indicators;
Promote a culture of openness and responsiveness to patient and staff views, an ethos of constructive and positive learning from mistakes within a performance-based culture and use information as the basis for reflection and action;
Manage the performance of the Patient Safety team, monitor the quality of its services and maximise the effectiveness of the available resources;
Ensure all clinical groups and directorates develop, implement and maintain robust local risk management practices, ensuring compliance with the requirements of the organisation's Risk Management Policy;
Manage the Incident Reporting Policy and associated procedures throughout the organisation, as the basis for reporting and learning to mitigate incidents;
Provide expert advice and leadership on matters relating to risk assessment, management and the promotion of assurance;
Ensure that these issues remain a priority for directors, senior managers, clinicians and support staff, and are fed systematically into the annual service and business planning cycle for subsequent action;
Assist in responsibilities for CQC Registration relating to risk management and patient safety supporting compliance with the Health and Social Care Act.
A successful candidate will have:

Degree level education or equivalent experience, skills and knowledge;
Proven recent experience in a management position in the NHS;
Experience within Risk Management, Patient Safety, including serious incident investigations, Duty of Candour, Patient Safety Alerts;
Ability to communicate complex issues to individuals and all members of multidisciplinary teams.
