Head of Risk & Governance

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new Risk and Governance function within a well-known Public Sector body in the North West. The Head of Risk and Governance will support the Executive Management Team and lead a small team to facilitate and support effective risk management, governance and information management.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Director and leading a small team, the key responsibilities of this hands-on role include:

Develop and deliver a strategic vision and direction for governance, internal audit and risk management that meets the requirements of the Board, Audit Committee and other key stakeholders and aligns with the business strategy, standards and legislation

Continue to develop, implement and oversee an enterprise risk management framework for the business, to support the development of the internal audit plan

Prepare and present effective risk reports to the Board, Audit Committee and Senior Management, including insight and analysis to support the business in effective decision-making

Provide advisory support to management, as a subject matter expert, with respect to internal controls, risk management, ethics and governance. Ensure that there is a culture that proactively manages risk and embeds it across the organisation

Support and advise the organisation in ensuring compliance with legislative and best practice requirements

Manage and support any relevant change programmes and efficiency reviews across the organisation

Lead on developing and implementing an overarching information strategy, including policies, strategies, model, and governance, to ensure the organisation understands and manages its information throughout

Day to day leadership and management of the Risk & Governance team with a focus on identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, whilst maintaining the highest quality assurance standards

THE PERSON

This is a broad role encompassing a range of governance, compliance, and risk. You will be a self-starter and able to challenge the status quo whilst demonstrating the ability to influence senior management.

Ideally, you will have experience gained from a similar compliance, risk or internal control/audit role and have experience of working in a public sector or similar regulatory organisation

You will either be professionally qualified in a relevant field, or working towards a professional qualification, but equally important is the experience if you haven't taken the formal qualification route

The role can be fully agile/WFH and flexible working although there will be a need to travel to the head office some of the time
