The Head of Risk Management role plays a key leadership role maintaining high risk management standards across the business, while constantly looking for new ways to improve efficiencies and performance. In particular, the role supports the Risk Management Framework, Policy and Risk Appetite Statement which structures, defines and provides guidance on implementation of the key elements of the risk management approach. The Head of Risk Management will lead the firms second line of defence risk management function providing independent assessment and challenge of the firm's enterprise-wide risk profile.

Key Accountabilities and Main Responsibilities

  • Supporting the management and where appropriate, minimisation of business risk, and the mitigation of operational risk through relevant risk assessment procedures, adhering to policy and in accordance with risk management frameworks. In particular, as part of the "2nd line of defence":
  • Accountable for ensuring that there is a sound system of oversight and risk management and internal control.
  • Develop risk appetite framework and policy for Board approval; promote consistent application within the business.
  • Develop risk procedures including Control Self Assessments.
  • Assist 1st Line to monitor and report risks and risk mitigation effectiveness.
  • Own, manage and provide guidance and training on risk management processes and tools.
  • Provide the Board and Risk Committee with an independent of view risk and mitigation status.
  • Interact with directors, functional heads and other senior stakeholders within Link Group to ensure appropriate escalation of issues, common understanding of specialist matters and effective use of resource.
  • Build and maintain a high performing team who are held accountable to deliver via high performance leadership, employee engagement practices & role model behaviours. Ensuring capability and resources are in place to meet business requirements.
  • Provide expert or key strategic advice to the board where required.
  • Represent the business at a senior level.
  • Effectively question and challenge the 1st line business functions, direct reports / individuals to gain a comprehensive understanding of issues / risks to be able to determine when expert / external advice is required or when direct action is required.
  • Maintains knowledge of professional, technical and business knowledge, industry and business developments, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that an up to date succession and talent plan in place.
  • Actively promote the growth and embedding of a strong conduct culture across the businesses, one which instils high performance and correct behaviours.
  • Report to and provide assurance and advice on relevant risks to the Global Head of Risk and Compliance Fund Solutions.
  • Participate in Link Fund Solutions Risk and Compliance fora, as determined by the Group Chief Risk Officer and the Global Head of Risk and Compliance Link Fund Solutions
  • Participate in Group wide Enterprise Risk discussions and initiatives and
  • Liaise with other Fund Solutions Heads of Risk/CROs where necessary and appropriate

Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Up to date knowledge and experience in operational risk management and the development of risk management frameworks, processes and effective controls. Understanding of CSA best practice and effective implementation. Experience in Operational Resilience and Business Continuity Management. Experience in Operational Risk Deep Dives.
  • Previously authorised as an SMF 4 within an Asset/Investment Management, ACD, Asset Servicing or Depositary Environment
  • Good working understanding of investment risk management (e.g. performance management, liquidity and valuation risk).
  • Knowledge of specific risks such as information security and fraud risk.
  • A university degree and/or relevant professional qualifications.
  • Knowledge and experience within a regulatory environment, including a sound understanding of the Senior managers and Certification Regime.
  • Significant experience of leading teams and providing strategic direction across multiple locations.
  • Solid experience of setting and achieving business targets, time lines, plans and financial targets.
  • Deep understanding and working knowledge of Financial regulations.
  • Proven track record in managing a department or function.
  • Significant experience of managing change and transition activity.
  • Personal commitment to and visible role modelling of the organisation's behaviours and values. This will include in depth experience in the development and embedding of a strong culture, one which adheres to FCA conduct rules and embeds positive behaviours & values.
  • Good / broad understanding of the markets in which we operate and knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company.
  • Familiarity with corporate law and management best practices.
  • Excellent organisation, relationship management and leadership skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage risk for the business.
