The Head of Risk Model Development is a second-line role reporting to the Model Risk & Innovation Director. The role will play a critical part in positioning Risk as a strategic enabler of the business, helping to create a modernised and increasingly nimble Risk function, and will be responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of all Risk-owned models across the Group, including credit origination, capital, provisioning and stress testing. There are three primary areas of responsibility:

Development of Risk-owned Models
Regular Model Monitoring
Model Governance and Review of non-Risk ModelsThe Head of Risk Model Development also acts as an ambassador of Our Promises and will demonstrate the associated behaviours at all times.

The role of Head of Risk Model Development is really important to us.

When the time is right, we would love to welcome you to one of our hub offices in Reading, Cardiff or Manchester. In the meantime you will be based remotely. You'll be made to feel part of your new team by your Line Manager, Model Risk & Innovation Director, and colleagues through regular contact and virtual interaction.

What would your day look like?

Leading the design, development and deployment of models that inform strategic decisions which impact the Group's overall plan for its business model, choice of markets and funding strategy.
Ensuring that the Group has implemented a robust model development process and executes an appropriate use of models.
Ensuring that models are compliant with regulatory requirements.
Working with the IRB Programme on internal and regulatory engagement around models to support the bank's plans on achieving Advanced IRB status
Designing and implementing regular model monitoring that is concise and insightful.
Collaborating with Risk COO to drive the specification of data structures required for modelling and to ensure that data used in model development is fit for purpose.
Supporting model governance by driving efficient operation of the Model Management Forum.
Leading the independent review of non-risk models (e.g. pricing) and presenting an independent opinion to facilitate approval decisions by the chair of Model Management Forum.
Working with the Model Risk & Innovation Director to develop a strategic roadmap for Models.What do we expect of you?

Technical skills developed in a quantitative environment, with hands-on experience of risk model development, gained in an AIRB bank.
Strong grasp of modelling methodologies and techniques as applied across a range of model types.
Excellent understanding of relevant regulation - e.g. CRR, PRA SS 11/13, EBA, IFRS 9
Demonstrated experience in leading model development projects and successful delivery of models that pass internal validation and regulatory scrutiny.
Proven track record of leadership and strategic influence.
Competent at leading, coaching, developing and motivating highly skilled technical teams
Effective communicator, adept at presenting complex technical problems and solutions clearly and simply.
Deep knowledge of existing Financial Services regulatory environment and risk management approaches and appetite for continued learning. What can you expect of us?
