Job Description
As a member of our Strategic Environmental & Safety Consulting (SESC) team, you will be working as a Fire Risk/Passive Fire Protection Assessor and be responsible for undertaking fire risk assessments and visual/intrusive passive fire protection surveys for our clients. Our Fire team provides fire safety consultancy services to a wide range of clients including high rise residential blocks, student accommodation, commercial and banking, health care, education, scientific research, transport, and warehousing/distribution.
You will be a key contact within the Fire Safety Team for advice on passive fire protection solutions, and provide support to clients through both visual and intrusive sampling of passive fire protection arrangements to provide assurance arrangements are in line with Approved Document B, and where not provide clients with solutions to raise the standard of passive fire protection.
Furthermore, this role will ensure that our clients and our own risk assessment and audits are compliant with the most up to date fire regulations.
In addition to passive fire protection support/advice, the job role will also involve desktop reviews of relevant fire documentation (e.g., existing fire risk assessment reports; existing fire safety strategy reports; fire drawings, such as fire compartmentation drawings), as well as site visits for carrying out the fire risk assessments and fire safety audits and supporting the fire safety discipline at Arcadis.
The role will also require conducting visual and intrusive surveys of passive fire protection arrangements at Client premises, as well as supporting our Fire Safety Engineers in specifying passive fire protection requirements. Sharing ideas and perspectives with fellow Arcadians, you\'ll be part of tight-knit team, focused on delivering for our client and preparing proposals and marketing material in relation to our Fire Safety capabilities.
This role will predominantly be serving clients in London and the South East but will involve travel to other UK regions as required including occasionally overnight stays.
Your Day-to-Day:
* Carrying out site visits to conduct visual and intrusive sampling of passive fire protection arrangements, as well as reviewing fire safety floor plans and advising on required level of passive fire protection for service penetrations, etc.
* Marking up floor plans to identify PFP arrangements identified or where remedial work is required, including the full scoping of remedial work.
* Carrying out site visits when needed for conducting Fire Risk Assessments
* Development of Fire Risk Assessment reports; Hazard Identification
* Risk Based Interpretation and Application of these fire safety documents
* Assessment and understanding of the main British fire safety legislation and standards applied to buildings, such as Approved Document B (AD B), BS9999/9991, BS7974.
* Conducting fire safety management audits.
* Presenting findings arising from fire risk assessments and/or fire safety management audits to clients.
* Supporting other Arcadis business units with fire safety enquiries.
* Maintaining your CPD and contributing to fire safety team meetings/Team CPD sessions.
A Level 2/3 Certificate in passive fire protection as recognised by the IFE and ASFP; individual membership of the ASFP is desirable.
Fire Risk Assessors and/or Auditors qualifications by a professional institution, such as FPA, IFE etc.
Membership of the IFE or IFSM appropriate to your level of qualifications and experience.
Understanding of the ASFP colour book series on passive fire protection requirements their practical application in buildings and evaluation of the effectiveness of installed PFP solutions.
Experienced in conducting fire risk assessments (including Type 2 and 4), fire safety audits and writing fire risk assessment reports. For candidates with a high level of PFP knowledge and surveying experience but limited fire risk assessment experience, fire risk assessment training, recognised by the IFE, will be provided, as necessary.
As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) understanding.
Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and supporting guidance documents such as Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 9997, BB 100, HTM 05 and the MHCLG fire risk assessment guides.
An understanding on Active Fire Protection (AFP), Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems and RSETxASET and their impact on the evacuation strategy for the premises being risk assessed.
Ability to travel to clients (travel will be paid)
