Working on behalf of a leading consultancy, we have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Flood Risk Consultant to join their Flood Risk and Water Management Team in Leeds.

Enthusiastic, positive and confident, the Principal Flood Risk Consultant would, due to our current working practices, be largely home working with 1 or 2 days per week spent working in the office in Leeds. Although Leeds is ideal, this role could be accommodated in one of our other offices in Manchester, East Grinstead, Sheffield or London so candidates should be within a commutable distance from one of these offices.

We are seeking a Principal Flood Risk Consultant who can take a lead in the delivery of our flood modelling including 1D and 2D models for rivers, surface water and sewers, and/or flood hydrology projects.

You will lead on our flood risk projects and work closely with our team of specialists, and alongside engineers, environmentalists, and other technical experts.

The Role

Lead on flood risk and water management projects, including hydrology and hydraulic modelling studies, flood risk assessments, and reports.
Undertake technical reviews ensuring the production of high-quality deliverables in some of the following: ICM, Flood Modeller, Tuflow, Hec-RAS, Flood Estimation Handbook, WINFAP, ReFH2 etc.
Mentor and support junior staff, whilst managing and progressing the delivery of multiple projects.
Producing high quality client facing technical reports and deliverables for flood modelling studies and related projects (such as Flood Modelling Reports, Hydrology Reports, Flood Risk Management Appraisals, Flood Risk Assessments, Sustainable Drainage Studies, Flood Risk Strategies and Surface Water Management Plans).
Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues and work co-operatively across functions and businesses to deliver joint projects, share information and ideas.
You will be involved in business development, and will prepare and manage flood risk management bids, including technical approach, cost estimation, risk assessment and programming resources.

What we need

Relevant degree in geography, environmental science, or engineering and appropriate knowledge of flood risk practices and techniques. Preferably a relevant post graduate qualification too.
Chartered member of a relevant institution (for example CIWEM, ICE). For the right candidate we will consider non-chartered applicants on the understanding that we will support you toward becoming a chartered member within the first 6 months of employment.
Around 10 years experience in either: 1D-2D hydraulic modelling using Flood Modeller, Tuflow, and/or Info Works ICM; and/or UK based hydrological analysis such as: FEH, WINFAP and ReFH2.
GIS analytical skills in either: QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo.
Experience of managing and analyzing large complex datasets (this may be in Excel or similar software).
Significant and demonstrable experience of writing and reviewing technical and non-technical reports for a range of flood studies.
