The Purpose

To provide advice, guidance, and recommendations in relation to best practice risk management.

The Role of Programme Risk Manager

Provide guidance / recommendations in relation to best practice risk management to ensure effective and efficient delivery of Capital Programmes.

Provide guidance in relation to the embedment of risk management frameworks to enable risks to be identified and recorded in a consistent way for reporting.

Identify continuous growth in risk management maturity that will assist enable strategic / informed decisions to be made.

Enable and drive continuous improvement in risk management via risk insights.

Provide mentorship and training to risk management personnel.

Typical Role Responsibilities

· Ability to co-ordinate and influence stakeholders, drawing on their knowledge and experience to deliver within an appropriate risk architecture.

· Provide gap analysis in terms of risk management frameworks.

· Ensure risk support is a 'value-add' service and is aligned to escalation and risk appetite thresholds.

· Engage with stakeholders to discuss service provision and manage expectations appropriately.

· Support timely risk reporting submissions to enable senior management to make informed decisions

· Ability to establish and implement risk contingency provisions and profiling to drive efficiency.

· Visionary that can create risk insights metrics and dashboards to enable continuous improvement.

· Provide support, guidance or undertake risk management audits and assurance benchmarking.

· Review and provide guidance in relation to Risk Systems in relation to fit for purpose and enables consistent data capture for reporting purposes.

Experience Required:

· Seasoned risk manager that can coach, mentor risk specialists and project communities to increase risk management maturity.

· Recognised senior risk practitioner in relation to knowledge of enterprise risk management principles and how risk influences the strategic objectives

· Demonstrable stakeholder engagement within managing capital programme.

· Excellent understanding of dependencies within programme, governance, and commercial risk management.

· Ability to communicate risk data and information to Senior Management.

· Seasoned risk managers that can provide training and mentorship of risk management principles.

· Ability to identify and recommend improvements to drive best practice enterprise risk frameworks that align to Client's needs.

· Responsible for the direction and development of direct reports, including providing support to other team members as required (workload complexity, technical skills, resource management).

· Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal are essential.

Essential Skills:

• Risk Management qualifications (Degree, IRM, MoR or APM).

• 7 years + experience in risk management.

• Ability to coach and mentor direct reports.

• Ability to understand and conduct quantitative risk management modelling (schedule and cost).

• Experience of working and reporting to Senior Management.

• Experience in leading a team

• Strong influencing, negotiating and leadership skills.

Desirable Skills:

• Membership of the Institute of Risk Management

• Understanding of commercial and planning principles (Primavera P6).

• Previous experience in a consulting environment / role

• Previous experience within a capital management programme


The role is mainly an office-based role however there may be a requirement to undertake some site visits. The role requires flexibility in relation to travel, as location will depend on Clients / Direct Reports that you are providing services to.
