Risk Practitioner

Great opportunity for a Risk Practitioner to join a high-profile critical national infrastructure programme, where you'll have the opportunity to shape our risk management framework and further progress your career. Your base location will be our Warwick, Quinton or Chorley offices, but you can be home- based with occasional travel into the office.

The role:

In this newly created position, reporting to the Head of Quality Services and Assurance, you will be responsible for providing effective risk management services to the National Roads Telecommunication Services (NRTS) programme and Highways business unit. This will include providing competent risk management advice and establishing processes to raise risk and control awareness and facilitate the use of risk management as a decision-making tool, across the senior management team. You will also be responsible for improving the risk management governance arrangements. This will include defining the risk hierarchy, roles and responsibilities and escalation thresholds. You will also establish reporting templates and frequencies.

Responsibilities will also include:

Coordination of the development of a consolidated risk register based on the key risks identified by the senior management team
Utilise traditional tools such as the PESTLE or SWOT Analysis to facilitate the identification of emerging risks
Create graphical heat maps based on the consolidated risk register
Provide briefings to the senior management team, Exec, and other relevant stakeholders
Engage with Corporate Internal Audit or an external third partySkills, experience and qualifications required:

Experience of developing risk management capability in organisations that have diverse operations and have experienced significant change
Exposure to contract management, IT and information security, project / programme / change management and internal auditing
Experience of delivering relevant and timely information and reports up to Board level
Up to date on relevant Corporate Governance requirements for FTSE listed companies
Good understanding of control and assurance frameworks e.g. COSO and the 3 Lines of Defence
Effective stakeholder engagement and communication
Practical problem-solving skills and excellent presentation skills
Confident in the development, analysis, and publication of performance metrics
Practical use of Microsoft Office applications
Professional risk manager (IRM/AIRMIC) and/or accountant/auditor (ACA/ACCA/IIA preferably) qualification
Ability to obtain SC clearanceThe NRTS programme:

Highways England have awarded telent the contract for the operation and management of NRTS2 (National Roads Telecommunication Services), NRTS is the network of communication and control that Highways England uses to monitor and manage England's motorways and major trunk roads, it is a critical component of national infrastructure supporting the country's 4,400mile strategic road network.

The contract includes a major technology transformation programme in addition to general maintenance and management of the network; The transformation programme comprises of 11 technology projects, including the introduction of new wireless and IP CCTV services, new management systems and the next-generation upgrade of all technology, this will ultimately enable Highways England to prepare for the future and enable safer roads, more efficient delivery and a better road user experience.
