The Role

As a Risk Underwriter in our busy trade credit insurance under writing team you will be reviewing and analysing company information and making limit decisions. You will have a broad exposure to a number of sectors but a specialism in a particular sector would be an advantage. Specific tasks and responsibilities will include;

* Analysing buyers' creditworthiness and set appropriate credit limits using both domestic and export expertise.

* Monitoring exposures using reactive and proactive methodologies.

* Continuing to build knowledge and awareness of key industry sectors and drivers likely to make better underwriting decisions.

* Liaising with colleagues from other Coface entities with regard to their requests on UK buyers, export limits, and key exposures.

* Ensuring information is current making appropriate use of the Enhanced Information Centre Analysts, and through personal updates of economic and sector trends.

* Working closely with Commercial department to ensure business is won or retained.

You will be part of a close knit team of underwriters who cover both the UK and Ireland.

You will be based in our London office at least 2 days a week with flexibility on where you spend the other days.

What we are looking for

Specialist Skills & Knowledge

* Financial analysis - Ability to read and interpret audited and management accounts

* Highly numerate

* Confidence to make risk decisions and provide explanations

* Able to work to targets and deadlines

* Self-motivated and excellent at prioritising

* Knowledge and understanding of company funding, turnaround, and buy-out situations

* Understanding of business and company structures as well as Contract Law

* As well as demonstrating a broad knowledge of all UK and Irish trade sectors a high level knowledge and understanding of the main sectors underwritten within the team should be evidenced: main players, strengths and weaknesses, general trends, relevant business practices and terminology

* Knowledge of GDPR, confidentiality agreements, FSA and libel regulations

* Good communication skills including good written and oral skills

* Ability to persuade and influence

* Awareness of economic climate

* Able to use a range of systems to store and process information


* Pass at GCSE or equivalent English and Maths

* Desirable: Educated to a degree level or professional qualification, for example ICM.

* Similar experience within credit insurance risk underwriting.
