The Future at Lloyds risk team is being established as part of the Core Operations Risk, Resilience and Response team to oversee risk and quality assurance of product development cycle thus ensuring that the risks of design, build, transition and run are effectively identified, assessed and managed within risk appetites set by the Board

The Role

To establish and lead the risk team responsible for independent oversight of the risk and quality assurance of the products developed under the Future at Lloyds Programme. This includes embedding the Lloyds Risk Framework to ensure all risks to Lloyds (market and Corporation) arising from the design, build and run are effectively identified, assessed and managed in line with the appetite set by the Board. To establish and run a formal approach to engagement with Risk Owners responsible for management of the risks (both inside and outside the programme), providing robust oversight and challenge to risk exposures in the design, build and run.


Strategy and leadership

To operate the framework to identify, assess and monitor the Future at Lloyds risks faced by Lloyds and the market, with an emphasis on digital risks (including data and technology), third party risks and operational resilience. This will include the quarterly Corporations risk assessment of the risk represented by critical market shared service providers to managing agents.

Independent risk management

To provide robust risk challenge to the risk owners responsible for managing the risks, making recommendations for improvements in the control environment where necessary. Maintain ongoing monitoring of the key current and emerging operational risks facing Lloyds.

To run the quarterly risk assessment of the market shared service providers.

Lead strategic, thematic reviews of key risk areas, reporting conclusions to the executive, Risk Committee and Board where required. Lead Lloyds response to regulatory engagement on operational risks, including those in relation to overall market resilience. (not sure that this isnt 2LOD)

Provide regular reporting to the management and relevant governance forums as required, including the Transformation and Change Committee. Attend and actively participate in relevant management and risk governance forums and project meetings.

Quality Assurance

To establish and co-ordinate the agreement of a plan for quality assurance over the programme by third party quality assurance providers.

Risk Management

To provide leadership within the Future at Lloyds risk team, in accordance with the responsibilities delegated by the Head of Risk, Resilience and Response.

To respond with agility to requests (e.g. ad hoc projects) from the Chief Operations Office, the Head of Operations, the Head of Risk, Resilience and Response, Chief Risk Officer or Head of Risk Management

To engage and co-ordinate with the second and third line of defence as part of the overall risk management strategy.


Demonstrable stakeholder management and relationship skills to build relationships with a range of senior stakeholders and in particular within Operations, Technology, Procurement, HR and other key operational functions. This will include an ability to actively influence at Executive and Board levels with a confidence to deliver the right risk outcomes at senior levels of the organisation.

Expert technical risk management skills are required to be able to define and shape industry leading risk management tools which are tailored to the unique Lloyds business model as well as satisfying regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate should have excellent analytical skills and be able to effectively communicate (in both written and verbal forms) and engage in debate on complex topics. Evidence of influencing outcomes with senior management in both formal (e.g. committee) and informal settings is critical

Time management skills used to working to deadlines and under a certain amount of pressure. Ability to maintain effective personal workload plans that are achievable, prioritised appropriately and meet business objectives.

Team working should be used to working as part of a team, making effective contributions to team meetings and team initiatives and also be able to take ownership of tasks and projects whilst often working remotely and without supervision

Challenge ability to productively challenge technical experts across Lloyds and be robust/resilient under scrutiny

Strong relationship management and communication skills the role will involve a large amount of engagement with stakeholders at various levels across the Corporation, including the production of analysis reports which must be clear, accurate and easily accessible to both technical experts and those with a more general understanding of risk management.

Advanced project management skills to lead and deliver change within areas of responsibility (for example following changes in the regulatory environment)


Expert knowledge of risk management

Good understanding of the insurance industry and the Lloyds market

Good knowledge of business operations and processes and key associated risks, including people, process and technology

Strong understanding and confidence in utilising leadership and management skills


Experience in leading high performing teams to successful risk management outcomes

Experience in dealing with complex stakeholder communication and negotiation

Experience in managing senior stakeholders including challenging or unsupportive stakeholders

Strong experience of risk management frameworks, tools and processes
